Caught this review at blogcritics.org for a new book by Jeff Somers – The Electric Church. They are saying “The Electric Church, the latest book from Jeff Somers, is a gritty, cyberpunk masterpiece in the tradition of Snowcrash and Neuromancer.” Sounds good to me – ordered it at Amazon

So PopMatters has an article on the post-cyberpunk movement. Um, I guess I should actually read these things before I go and post ’em here, but it’s like five pages long and I’ll read it over lunch and get back to you. But I did see reference to lots of authors, usual suspects….
Ok so I am not even done with River of Gods and I see this great review of Charles Stross’s new book Halting State
Yeah, I thought it was the Japanese cell phone format or something, but no! It’s National Novel Writing Month! Aww geez, I’m like four days late, which means I’ve got to pump out about 2,000 words per day. The gist is to write a 175-page, 50,000 word novel in November! C’mon you can do it too! Riiiiiight. Closer to 3,000 words a day to make up for Thanksgiving break, vacation travel and what not. Ug!
I am not sure I would consider Rudy Rucker a cyber punk novelist but I have truly enjoyed his books for both their simplicity in writing as well as their complexity in thought. It seem that Rudy is making his new book Postsingular available for free via PDF… If you are into aliens, multi-dimensional travel and the like you should seriously check Rudy’s books out.

The Washington Post reports on a new book by Aubrey de Grey that posits that some folks alive today may well live for 1,000 years. Well, actually, they report on his claims and the contest held to debunk his theories of treating aging as a disease — and curing it. De Grey’s book has indeed just been published. And, no scientist won the contest, leaving it all rather amibiguous.
And yeah, Aubrey just looks soooo cyberpunk!
Ok so maybe he isn’t the father of cyberpunk but he claims he coined the word and also invented the stereotype of the punk hacker that has a mohawk. Here is a link to the story that coined the word cyberpunk…

Well I took a little vacation from Cyberpunk to read Michael Stackpoles 3rd installment in the “Secret Atlas” series but I am back on track and have started Ian McDonald’s book River of Gods
Wow! Just … wow! Doris Lessing just won the Nobel! As usual, SFSignal has a good collection of quotes from around the web on this SciFi Coup! Salon has a quick write-up as well, noting that 1982 Nobel-winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez was somewhat “fantasy” with his “magic realism.”
An interview with said titled second wave cyberpunk author. Or was he first wave? At work on lunchtime right now so don’t have resources to check that out, or read this, but I will read this, cause it’s an interview with a sci-fi author! And he mentions nearly all my favorites at one point!
