Ling just sent me an email and since he did not blog it (shame on him) I will… Adam Rogers (from wired) has an article on the New York Times website that sadly/gladly reflects the life path of many of my friends and I… We started with Dungeon & Dragons almost 30 years ago and today I get my RP fill by playing World of Warcraft and of course I own an iPhone. It is fun to look back in retrospective at something like the impact of Dungeons and Dragons but at the same time it is hard to say that was the beginning of the path that I call my life… Perhaps just a very important tool along the way..

Truly a sad day for me and my high school friends as the great Gary Gygax (the Stan Lee of Roleplaying games) enters into the gates of Valhalla… Gary was one of the founders of the game Dungeon’s and Dragons which I spent so much time playing on the weekends as a youth… Wired reported it first…

Hmm… Can a book change your life? Many have told me that this is the case.. Check out this site that has a list of the 20 SF Novels That Will Change Your Life… Lots of good cyberpunk on that site..
There was a time I actually used to subscribe to and read magazines… Now with the internet being such an excellent place to get technology and book reviews and other good stuff it a very rare occasion that I will actually take the time to read a magazine and god forbid I crack open a newspaper… One of the few magazines I used to read on a regular was Wired because of its cyberpunk/technology bent and I recently stumbled on an article that talks about the evolution of Wired Magazine and how it has gone from Man to Ape…

I have talked about Rudy Rucker before and his unique style of writing and take on near future. There is an excellent interview on his site that I think is worth reading. The interview was done by Erin Weinstock who runs the website Buck Rogers in the 26th century.

I noted in a previous post that Vernor Vinge had released a new book call “Rainbows End”. I found this post today off an UK site that I thought was interesting and provided a little more detail on the book and the man behind it.

Well I am not sure if this is a rumor or if it will really happen but it seems like there are plans to bring William Gibson’s Neuromancer to the big screen. It seem that Hayden Christensen ( you know him as Darth Vader in Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 ) is to play the lead role of Case (God I don’t remember any of the storyline ). It might be time to re-read this classic just so I can get refresher before the movie comes out. In any case I do not have too high hopes for the movie since rarely do these kinds of adaptions provide any entertainment (OK Bladerunner and Stardust were good ). Read about the casting and director here.
There are rare occasions when I devour a book and Halting State by Charles Stross was one of them. What interested me initially by this book is that it sounded like it was tied into MMORPG’s (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) of which I am a devoted World of Warcraft (WoW) player (as is my wife and 2 sons). For those of you in the know WoW is by far the most popular MMORPG out there today with some 9 million people (probably 10 million by now) playing the game worldwide. Continue reading
