How can you go wrong with a blog entry that instantly quotes both William Gibson … and Dan Quayle! Well, nevermind, but The Age has an interesting read on some future trends in gaming, with somewhat of an Australian slant but still some good insights and trend analysis. And a mention of the long hyped “Spore.”

How Many Do You Recognize?
PC World has a pretty good list of the Top 50 Tech Visionaries, and admittedly, there were more than half that were unknown to me — not as big a geek as I thought I was! But yep, holding his own at No. 48 …. William Gibson!
Gibson in the News
His blog has gone quiet, which is always a good sign! Most likely taking a much needed little vacation, but he usually blogs while “in between” — perhaps Lady Muse have visited him! Anyway, he’s now all doctored up — honorary degree conferred! I like one of the headlines, “Now he’s the Doctor of Cyberspace!” Plus some steampunk musings at an LA Times’ Blog. Huh, I thought the VanderMeers’ Steampunk anthology was out already, pretty sure it’s on my shelf at home having just scored it? I could be wrong, big bag of books from a trip into SF last week! Maybe that was the post-cyberpunk anthology?
Steampunk Fashion
The NY Times has an article on the Steampunk Culture, which alludes to the fashionable sense of the movement. They’re not all scary like the Goths! And I quote, “Steampunk isn’t all dark and spooky. It’s elegant and beautiful.” I’d have to agree with that given the fabulous steampunk devices popping up!
Was Matrix really 10 years ago!?!?! Yep. [edit: Nope, geez, can’t these folks do a simple fact check? 31 March 1999 was the release…] Then they did the other two to complete the triology. Now they’re back with Speed Racer. Here’s an interesting article looking back on Matrix.
Cyber Street
Found on Gibson’s blog, who found it on Sterling’s blog — an article, a rather long one, entitled “The Street as Platform” wherein it is discussed how interactive our streets are becoming, how interactive they could become, how much data is being pulled off of a busy street, how many sensors, cameras, displays and all the particulars of a rich media environment. Should be a facinating read for lunch!
75 Words SciFi Fans Should Know
An interesting list of words from scifidom that I was utterly devestated that I could not instantly recognize and define each one! I’m working on that. (Found through SFSignal of course….)
So um, uh. How many cyberpunk/shadowrunny words are there on the list? (As he weasels in his post to the rigorous deinition of this site’s subjects!)
Virtual World Griefers
Interesting articles in Wired about v-world griefers, malicious or just practical jokers? I do agree with the sentiment that it really shows how serious the players take their in-game experiences through how exasperated they become. But griefing someone so much they quit a game? That ain’t good.
25-Year Director’s Final Cut – Blade Runner
This has been on my mind for awhile, didn’t show up in my xmas stocking but it’ll be around soon enough, have no doubt. I like the point made here, that all the “Net lore made ‘Blade Runner’ a richer experience.” All the FAQs and behind-the-scenes recountings add more texture to the movie. And the movie itself remains a powerhouse, sure it’s still a very 80s vision (no cellphones, early MTV costumes) but nothing too completely over the top — it all looks vaugely plausible, hauntingly familiar.
SF Crowsnest on SF Bloggers
Looks like a good SF Blog I hadn’t found before, wherein I also found this article of a blogger interviewing other SF bloggers about … SF Blogging! Which of course sounds like something I should think about reading….
