Found on Gibson’s blog, who found it on Sterling’s blog — an article, a rather long one, entitled “The Street as Platform” wherein it is discussed how interactive our streets are becoming, how interactive they could become, how much data is being pulled off of a busy street, how many sensors, cameras, displays and all the particulars of a rich media environment. Should be a facinating read for lunch!
What ever happened to Wired?
There was a time I actually used to subscribe to and read magazines… Now with the internet being such an excellent place to get technology and book reviews and other good stuff it a very rare occasion that I will actually take the time to read a magazine and god forbid I crack open a newspaper… One of the few magazines I used to read on a regular was Wired because of its cyberpunk/technology bent and I recently stumbled on an article that talks about the evolution of Wired Magazine and how it has gone from Man to Ape…

75 Words SciFi Fans Should Know
An interesting list of words from scifidom that I was utterly devestated that I could not instantly recognize and define each one! I’m working on that. (Found through SFSignal of course….)
So um, uh. How many cyberpunk/shadowrunny words are there on the list? (As he weasels in his post to the rigorous deinition of this site’s subjects!)
Virtual World Griefers
Interesting articles in Wired about v-world griefers, malicious or just practical jokers? I do agree with the sentiment that it really shows how serious the players take their in-game experiences through how exasperated they become. But griefing someone so much they quit a game? That ain’t good.
Rudy Rucker Interview
I have talked about Rudy Rucker before and his unique style of writing and take on near future. There is an excellent interview on his site that I think is worth reading. The interview was done by Erin Weinstock who runs the website Buck Rogers in the 26th century.

More on “Rainbows End”
I noted in a previous post that Vernor Vinge had released a new book call “Rainbows End”. I found this post today off an UK site that I thought was interesting and provided a little more detail on the book and the man behind it.

Neuromancer coming to the big screen?
Well I am not sure if this is a rumor or if it will really happen but it seems like there are plans to bring William Gibson’s Neuromancer to the big screen. It seem that Hayden Christensen ( you know him as Darth Vader in Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 ) is to play the lead role of Case (God I don’t remember any of the storyline ). It might be time to re-read this classic just so I can get refresher before the movie comes out. In any case I do not have too high hopes for the movie since rarely do these kinds of adaptions provide any entertainment (OK Bladerunner and Stardust were good ). Read about the casting and director here.
Halting State – Charles Stross
There are rare occasions when I devour a book and Halting State by Charles Stross was one of them. What interested me initially by this book is that it sounded like it was tied into MMORPG’s (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) of which I am a devoted World of Warcraft (WoW) player (as is my wife and 2 sons). For those of you in the know WoW is by far the most popular MMORPG out there today with some 9 million people (probably 10 million by now) playing the game worldwide. Continue reading
25-Year Director’s Final Cut – Blade Runner
This has been on my mind for awhile, didn’t show up in my xmas stocking but it’ll be around soon enough, have no doubt. I like the point made here, that all the “Net lore made ‘Blade Runner’ a richer experience.” All the FAQs and behind-the-scenes recountings add more texture to the movie. And the movie itself remains a powerhouse, sure it’s still a very 80s vision (no cellphones, early MTV costumes) but nothing too completely over the top — it all looks vaugely plausible, hauntingly familiar.
SF Crowsnest on SF Bloggers
Looks like a good SF Blog I hadn’t found before, wherein I also found this article of a blogger interviewing other SF bloggers about … SF Blogging! Which of course sounds like something I should think about reading….
