Jeff Somers strikes again…

Recently I read Jeff’s book the “The Electric Church” and found it a good read. He has just released his new book “The Digial Plague” and you can buy it Amazon. I never really reviewed his first book, so I will give you a quick insight into his writing style. Jeff Somer’s writing style is reminiscent of Frank Miller’s Sin City or probably more accurately of the hard-boiled detective stories of the 20’s and 30’s. The book is very readable and the characters are definitely anti-heroes. Technology plays 2nd fiddle to the storyline and is not too inventive thought I am not sure how important that is with this kind of story.

Gibson in the News

His blog has gone quiet, which is always a good sign! Most likely taking a much needed little vacation, but he usually blogs while “in between” — perhaps Lady Muse have visited him! Anyway, he’s now all doctored up — honorary degree conferred! I like one of the headlines, “Now he’s the Doctor of Cyberspace!” Plus some steampunk musings at an LA Times’ Blog. Huh, I thought the VanderMeers’ Steampunk anthology was out already, pretty sure it’s on my shelf at home having just scored it? I could be wrong, big bag of books from a trip into SF last week! Maybe that was the post-cyberpunk anthology?

Street: Empathy

Hmm new cyberpunk book just came out that I decided to order. Street: Empathy by Ryan A. Span. Looks interesting. It is reviewed here. I just ordered it on Amazon. I will let you know what I think.

Ling Stated it properly: D&D – Gateway Drug?

Ling just sent me an email and since he did not blog it (shame on him) I will… Adam Rogers (from wired) has an article on the New York Times website that sadly/gladly reflects the life path of many of my friends and I… We started with Dungeon & Dragons almost 30 years ago and today I get my RP fill by playing World of Warcraft and of course I own an iPhone. It is fun to look back in retrospective at something like the impact of Dungeons and Dragons but at the same time it is hard to say that was the beginning of the path that I call my life… Perhaps just a very important tool along the way..

Gary Gygax fails his saving throw…

Truly a sad day for me and my high school friends as the great Gary Gygax (the Stan Lee of Roleplaying games) enters into the gates of Valhalla… Gary was one of the founders of the game Dungeon’s and Dragons which I spent so much time playing on the weekends as a youth… Wired reported it first…
